  Azerbaijan’s CEC hosts press conference regarding the start of municipal elections 

Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) held a press conference on Wednesday regarding the start of the municipal elections in the country.

First, the national anthem of Azerbaijan was played.

Addressing the press conference, Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the CEC, noted that all polling stations across the country have been fully prepared for the voting. According to him, following the announcement of the elections, the CEC and district election commissions took necessary measures in line with the Election Code.

He also highlighted the practice of using webcams during the elections, stressing that an interested party from any country can visit the Central Election Commission website and observe the elections.

A total of 24 political parties have candidates participating in the municipal elections. The CEC Chairman emphasized that a total of 16,092 candidates are competing for 8,071 municipal member positions across 685 municipalities nationwide. Voting is being conducted in 5,846 polling stations across 118 constituencies. Seven of Azerbaijan’s 125 constituencies, located in the liberated territories, are not participating in the elections. A total of 70,625 local observers have been registered to monitor the elections. The municipal elections in Azerbaijan officially kicked-off today at 8:00 AM and will conclude at 7:00 PM.
